About the work
The Optometrists makes a profession devoted to vision the subject of a print that rewards close looking. Dana Schutz’s drypoint carries the pressure of marks worked into copper into the inked surface of paper. Made with Two Palms in 2025, it extends her world of invented situations, where humour and discomfort can occupy the same space and bodily actions take on an unfamiliar intensity.
About the artist
Dana Schutz is an American painter, sculptor and printmaker born in 1976. Her work constructs imagined situations in which bodies and actions are pushed beyond ordinary plausibility. Humour, discomfort and psychological intensity coexist in these invented worlds.
Schutz's printmaking extends the physical and expressive possibilities of her painting into other materials. In her 2025 drypoints with Two Palms, marks cut and worked into copper translate gesture into lines that retain the pressure of their making. Her work has been the subject of major museum exhibitions, including a presentation at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art that travelled to the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris in 2023.
