About the work
Dream bod and Bronco brings France-Lise McGurn’s fluid figurative language into a fourteen-colour silkscreen. The organised layers of printmaking provide a counterpart to an image-world associated with movement, remembered figures and shifting relationships. Published by House of Voltaire in 2020, the work extends McGurn’s practice beyond painting while retaining its sense of visual immediacy.
About the artist
France-Lise McGurn is a Scottish painter born in Glasgow in 1983. She studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and completed an MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art in 2012. Her work draws on art history, popular culture and the images encountered in magazines and newspapers.
Invented figures appear within fluid, colourful compositions that can extend from canvas directly onto surrounding walls. This movement between a discrete painting and an encompassing environment is a distinctive part of her practice. Her work has been presented in exhibitions including Sleepless at Tate Britain in 2019 and In Emotia at Tramway in 2020. Printmaking provides a further setting for her graphic and painterly language.
