About the work
Tova Berglund’s ceramic practice brings familiar forms into contact with feelings of vulnerability, affection and trust. This untitled sculpture offers a material setting for those concerns. Fired clay has a substantial physical presence while remaining susceptible to damage, a tension that encourages close attention to the relationship between strength and fragility.
About the artist
Tova Berglund is a Stockholm-based artist born in 1986. She completed a bachelor's degree in Ceramics and Glass at Konstfack in 2017. Working across drawing and sculpture, she addresses feelings such as grief, jealousy, love and trust through forms that combine seriousness with play.
Teddy bears and other familiar motifs recur, sometimes functioning as indirect self-portraits. Her process involves revising, cutting and drawing over existing material, with changes in direction forming part of the work. Text fragments and contrasts between materials add further meanings. A public presentation organised by Lunds konsthall in 2022 brought enlarged versions of her drawings to Lund Central Station.
