About the work

Roberta Vilić works between painting and printmaking, allowing one process to inform another. Her layered approach gives surfaces a sense of accumulated action, with marks retaining traces of pressure, repetition and revision. This untitled painting offers a point of entry into that practice, inviting the eye to follow relationships across the surface rather than seek a single prescribed story.

About the artist

Roberta Vilić was born in Banja Luka in 1971 and graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in 1998, studying with Zlatko Keser. Her practice encompasses painting, printmaking, artist's books, objects and photography. She has exhibited since the early 1990s in Croatia and internationally.

Printmaking remains important to the way Vilić constructs images, including paintings made with rollers and other tools associated with printing. Her work develops through layered surfaces and associations rather than a single prescribed meaning. She received the Museum of Contemporary Art award at the ninth Croatian Print Triennial in 2024, reflecting the continuing importance of graphic processes in her practice.
