About the work
Looking 1 brings Daniel Silver’s engagement with the body into a two-colour photolithograph. Its title directs attention to the act of viewing itself, turning a familiar activity into a subject for reflection. Made in connection with his 2022 Fruitmarket exhibition Looking, the print offers an intimate counterpart to a sculptural practice concerned with touch, presence and the ways figures are encountered.
About the artist
Daniel Silver is a sculptor born in London in 1972. He studied at the Slade School of Fine Art, graduating in 1999, and the Royal College of Art, graduating in 2001, before a residency at the British School at Rome. His practice returns to the human body and to the ways sculpture records touch, looking and memory.
Silver's figures can evoke archaeological fragments while remaining visibly shaped through contemporary processes. Clay and colour provide ways to test the relationship between a body and its representation.
