About the work
This untitled print offers an encounter with Selene States’s practice through a work on paper. Across performance, film, textiles and translation, States explores the relationships between bodies, language and memory. That movement between different forms provides a wider context for considering how an image can carry experience from one setting into another.
About the artist
Selene States is a British-American artist whose work includes performance, film, textiles and translation. Her practice considers how bodies carry histories, using re-enactment and embodied experience to examine relationships between language, memory and representation.
States studied at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design with John Bock and Marijke van Warmerdam. Her research and artistic work connect the making of images and objects with questions about how cultural meanings are transmitted.
